I made the background myself, adding some of StudioTangie's Graffiti strips over it. The lace is from Ztampf, the heart from StudioTangie and the wonderful marriage picture and quote from Rosey Posey.

Architecture

Architecture is the theme from the Three Muses this week. My piece started out as two black and white images from Dover.

Initially, I added various layers and filters to obtain the colours in the background. Then I coloured the picture of the lady & gent and added it to the foreground.

Here are some pages I have produced in my second journal.

This page started with a lilac acrylic paint background. I wrote on it diagonally and added the border with a blue Sharpie pen. I then laid some stencils over it and sprayed it with Glimmer Mist. Once dry, I highlighted the stencil shapes by drawing around them with a green Sakura Souffle Pen.

The next pages had a yellow acrylic paint background with patches of black paint added on top of it. I drew around two stencils (bought at the Tate) with Sharpie pens and a gold gel pen. I then wrote my piece and added further colour using water soluble oil pastels. 

The third set of pages started with an acrylic paint background upon which I wrote all the addresses of the places I have lived. Having added some colour using water soluble oil pastels, I then painted rough blocks of white and black gesso over them to make them unreadable. Once this had dried I wrote some comments, diagonally, about those places.  More colour with the oil pastels, and finally some odd references with black Sharpie.

Last but not least, these pages focus on craft! Again, they started with a acrylic paint background, green and black this time. I wrote my journal in red Sharpie and underlined it in blue and black. I then added more colour using yellow and red water soluble oil pastels. 

P.S. I am writing this is between watching Tim Holtz on QVC!!! Looking forward to seeing Suze Weinberg this afternoon.

Itinerary 8

The verb of the week from Art Journal Caravan is 'compose'. The thinking behind my mixed media pages was something like this: am I myself when I am composed or when I am not composed? I started with an acrylic paint background, added the paper image of the headless figure and some music (from a paper napkin), and then wrote on the pages using Sharpies. More colour was then added using water soluble oil pastels.

Moving onto to my digital work, I actually created two, quite different, pieces this week. Both were built up using different layers and then colouring parts that started out as black & white.

Twins

Here is my entry for Sunday Postcard Art this week, where the theme is twins. I took a black & white photo, duplicated it and coloured both images. Over the red background I added a black & white advertisement, using various filters to make it blend in. As a last touch I added the word strips.

Digital scrapbooking

Until now, I had not attempted any digital scrapbooking so I thought I would give it a whirl. I'm not sure whether others print out the pages they have created and put them in an album or whether they just create albums on their computer. I haven't decided about mine yet.

The first page is is built around one of my great grandfathers and his sons. Miraculously they all returned from the first World War, hence the 'gratitude' label.

The second page contains a photo I took when visiting Tyntesfield, a National trust property. I wanted the page to coordinate with the colours in the photo. Although it was a dull day, the red leaves on the tree looked beautiful.

The third page is created around a photo of myself when I was young. I spent a lot of my childhood with various teeth missing!

Theme Thursday - girls

Theme Thursday have given the theme of 'girls' this week. I couldn't resist using the photo from Terri Kahrs, as I think it is just so lovely!

London collage

Over the last couple of weeks I have been working on a collage on the theme of London. It has been through many changes as different layers have been added. The images come from magazines and pamphlets, glued on with matte medium. The colour comes from layers of acrylic paint.

I have had a lot of difficulty photographing this and the image below is actually darker than real life.

Itinerary 7

Here are my journal pages for this week. The theme from AJC is about sharing, with the challenge to try a new technique. Whilst I was at Tate Modern last week I found a postcard with journalling on it. The author had written over the photo, but leaving the main image free. So this is what I decided to do as my new technique; not very original, but new for me!

ACF provided a sepia photo of a little girl with wings. I altered the colour and then made this digital collage.

All those who know me will know that I hate sewing. For me, digital graphics is a way of achieving a hand sewn look without the pain!! All the elements are from the wonderful Bohemian Rhapsody set by Ztampf (Scrapbook Graphics).

Postage stamps - please write

The Three Muses' theme this week is postage stamps.

I started off with a black and white image of the woman and then changed her dress into material made from postage stamps. I lightly coloured the rest of her and then set her upon the script background, adding the air mail label and envelope frame. It seemed to me that she was waving goodbye to someone, hence the words 'please write'.
