Collage and Mixed Media 10

Here is a painting I created using a small part of one of one of the collages from my previous post as inspiration. I wonder if you can spot the area in the collage...

Collage and Mixed Media 9

Here are two A3 collages I created on the course I attended back in May.

Collage & Mixed Media 8

Here is a collage that I created on the Collage & Mixed Media Course I attended. It is strips of paper glued onto the paper with two images by Picasso then added on top.

I then created a painting based on my collage.

Collage & Mixed Media 7

This is a collage I made of Waterloo Bridge, using the earlier drawing (see my posts on 24th & 27th May).

Collage & Mixed Media 6

Here are two very different collages made from my painty squares. I like the second one best - it reminds me of Henry Moore statues.

Collage & Mixed Media 5

Did you know you can paint onto tracing paper? Another thing I learnt on my course. I used tracing paper over a picture and when the paint was dry the tutor copied the image onto cartridge paper. I was amazed by how good it looks (although I know it isn't perfect)!

Collage

Following on from my course, and using the techniques I mentioned in my previous post 'Collage & Mixed Media 1', here is a collage I have made since. I took a line for a walk, added some pieces cut from my painty squares and then painted the remaining spaces yellow.

Collage & Mixed Media 4

These are the results of some of the painting exercises we did during my collage & mixed media course. It was really just about experimenting, but they made me so happy whilst I was doing them! And they can be used in other collages...

Collage & Mixed Media 3

Here are the pictures I created with my drawings from the previous post. I photocoped the drawings onto coloured paper and then used Prismacolor pencils or wax crayons to add some colour. I think I like the third one best.

Collage & Mixed Media 2

On the course I attended, the tutor also freed up our drawing by using materials that could aid us i.e. tracing paper & carbon paper. I was a litttle surprised by this, but it actually opened up a wide variety of things we could do with our drawings (these will come in another post).

The first two pictures were drawn using a fine liner pen with carbon paper under a photo.

This picture was drawn using tracing paper.

Collage & Mixed Media 1

I recently went on a Collage & Mixed Media course. It was really enjoyable and I learnt a lot.

The first exercise the tutor got us to do was designed to make us think about drawing in a different way. Borrowing a phrase from Paul Klee, she taught us how we could 'take a line for a walk'. First she gave us an object to hold and, once we had closed our eyes, we had to draw what we felt whilst not removing the pencil from the paper. Then, with a second object, we had to draw what we saw but we weren't allowed to look at what we were drawing.

We then did some mark making. First dry on dry ...

and then, wet on wet.

We then went back to our line drawings, and cut out shapes from our mark making to add them to our drawings.

Here is another, where we added paint to our collages.

I'm not sure that I would want to hang my collages on the wall, but it was a very interesting exercise and one I am sure I will use again.
