Texture

Some weeks ago, Marta Lapkowska was the guest artist at Wanderlust, encouraging us to use texture on our journal pages. To create texture on my page, I used texture paste, lace, paper flowers buttons, and other bits and pieces I found in my stash. I used various sprays to provide the colour.

Contrast (again!)

This journal page also uses contrast, but in a different way to the previous spread.

Contrast

I am trying to catch up with my Wanderlust course. I am only about 6 weeks behind!

This journal spread is about using contrast, hence the black, straight(ish) lines against the lighter, swirling background.

Pears

Several weeks ago, Lorraine Bell was the guest artist at Wanderlust. She inspired me to try and paint a still life. Here it is, using watercolours.

Fluid Art Making

Wendy Brightbill was the guest artist at Wanderlust recently. Here is my piece that she inspired, using Yupo paper, water and acrylic paints & pens. I think I need a bit of practise, but it was fun!

Creating with Alcohol Inks

I'm a bit behind with my Wanderlust classes, but I really enjoyed the class with Azoline, creating pieces with alcohol inks on Yupo paper. Here are my two finished pieces.

Home-made Journal

I am really behind with Wanderlust now, but I have managed to complete week 26. The guest artist was Rae Missigman. She showed us how to make a journal using old large envelopes.

Here's my journal. Both the front and back covers are made from envelopes. You might get to see the inside when I start using it! It has three signatures inside, each bound within another envelope.

Working Big!

This week at Wanderlust, Kasia encouraged us to work big. I hadn't done anything in my A3 journal for ages, so now was the time. Lots of layers of acrylic paint. I have a feeling it isn't finished, but this the page at the moment.

Patchwork Effect

Kate Crane was the guest artist at Wanderlust last week. She demonstrated how she painted a patchwork effect. This is my finished page.

The guest artist at Wanderlust for week 18 was Dyan Reaveley. Inspired by her techniques I created two journal pages.

Working Small

Week 17 (I'm a bit behind!) at Wanderlust, was about working on a small substrate. I made a concertina journal, about A6 size, so not that small, but smaller than my usual art journals. Click on the pictures if you would like to see them in greater detail. Thanks for looking!

Whimsy

Mndy Lacefield provided the inspiration for week 15 at Wanderlust. Here is my whimsical girl.

Journeys

I am somewhat behind with Wanderlust at the moment!

The guest artist for week 14 was Jessica Sporn whose canvas depicts the terrible journeys many refugees have to make to reach safety. Here is my own version:  the lines of washi tape depicting the borders refugees have to cross; the red stencil patterns highlighting the circuitous routes refugees have to travel; and the crosses recognising that many die along the way before reaching safety. The angel is a prayer that might be protected whilst travelling.

Printing Pictures

I picked a tip up from Jamie, on his class at Wanderlust this week: place a picture underneath your Gelli Plate and then paint onto the Gelli Plate. I painted an abbey. I printed two onto backgrounds I had previously done, and then a ghost print. They are not perfect, but I really like them!

Nature

This week at Wanderlust, Kasia encouraged us to use things from nature with our Gelli Plates.

I did one print into my art journal. As suggested, I then uses various pens and crayons to finish my page.

Once I had taken my Gelli Plate print, I stamped the leaves onto another page to get their imprints.

A good experiment!

Abstract Art

The project at Wanderlust for week 10 didn't really gel with me, but I decided to have a go anyway as it is always possible to learn. I ended up with this abstract piece. I'm not sure whether I like it not! What do you think?

Silence is Golden

Last week at Wanderlust Kasia encouraged us to use one of the backgrounds we made in week 5 (see my post on 14th February). This page used the background with the Distress Inks, and then I added painted marks and collage.

Using Nature as Inspiration

Clair Bremner, was the guest artist at Wanderlust a couple of weeks ago. She uses nature as inspiration for her abstract pieces of art.  I followed her inspiration, but used acrylic pens rather than acrylic paints. Here is my finished piece.

I think I will try another one at some point, but using paints next time.

Sapphire Jubilee

The guest artist at Wanderlust for week six was Amanda Grace. This is the page I created using her lesson as inspiration. The image transfer (a picture of Clare Foy as the Queen) was made using packing tape, so apologies for the shine!

Backgrounds

The task at Wanderlust last week was to create some backgrounds for pages in the weeks to come. I created a variety.

A double-sided spread using Brushos.

Two separate pages, one with stamping, one with acrylic paint.

Distress Inks on the left-hand side and more stamping on the right-hand side.

Last but not least, just masking tape.
