Hopeless at faces!

I am not good at drawing/painting faces, so when I saw this techinique I had to give it a go. Cut out a page with a large face on it from a book or magazine and cover it lightly with gesso. Once it is dry it should still be possible to see the main features and shadowing through it. These are then used as a guideline to draw and paint the face.

Well, I have now made two attempts at this. Once completed, I cut them both out and made a background for each of them. The first will probably make you laugh (she does look a bit like a monkey!), and I nearly didn't show it but parts of it I actually really like, such as her left cheek!

I think the second is much better.

What do you think?

Faces are so difficult! But I love what you are doing it here and the technique is a great idea Jackie. Penny
