Strip Ease

Michelle at GPP Street Team has challenged us to use torn strips of paper from to make backgrounds, so I decided to give this a go.

I have now finished my first journal, but when I first started it I left the first pages blank - I'm not entirely sure why, but I'm so glad I did. My techniques have developed throughout the journal and so I was glad I was able to add a page that I really liked at the beginning! It also meant I could match it with the very last page.

So here they are:

After sticking down the strips I sprayed dark blue paint over stencils. I then added some stamps and my journaling and some orange highlights.

Ahhh, your first journal. Now you are hooked! I love the colors you used and the freedom you gave yourself. I know it's very popular now to paint every page before you do a thing, but I like the possibility of a blank page.

Jackie - thanks for coming to play with us! Love these spreads. Terrific colors. Love the masking, and then the stamping over. Cool that your first and last pages match.

I always leave the first set of pages blank too. I never know if I'm going to want to add in storytelling to the front or maybe add a window to the cover (which I work on after the journal is done).

Great idea for the Pringle lid. I love it.
That must feel great to finish your first journal. I on the other hand keep starting new ones. No reason to finish one, right????
Thanks also for the kind comments you left on my blog. I look forward to visiting here more often and seeing your work.

Lovely work, and how nice it is to have your beginning and end pages tie it all together!

This is lovely, it's something I would like to do but keep putting off, but you've done it beautifully x

Lovin' your recent blogging Jackie! The pringle lid is fab and these pages are so cool... I am starting 2 new journals and I'm thinking leaving the front pages blank will be cool, judging by your spread! I love the grunged feel and the little touches of orange are gorgeous!

Oh I love the crown stencil. It looks a decent size too. And good thinking with leaving the front pages blank.

Love the stencils. What a good idea, in hindsight, to leave a few pages blank at the beginning - and to be able to go back and showcase all you have learnt through the journey of a new journal on them.

Awesome pages !! I really should try spraypaint too, but I have no idea what kind of spraypaint I should buy. But looking at your pages I think I just need to do some research, because I love it !
