Watercolours

This past week at Wanderlust was concentrating on using watercolour paints and a variety of techniques.

In this landscape picture I used salt, alcohol, masking fluid and cotton.

For this picture I only used watercolours, but used paints and pencils.

I can see all the faults in both pictures, but I'm still quite pleased with them as watercolour is not a medium I am used to, yet!

Texture

A few weeks ago, Andy Skinner was the guest artist at Wanderlust and he was teaching about texture. Here's my finished piece, inspired by his lesson.

A Spring Journal Page

This was more of a doodle page than anything else, using acrylic paint pens on a background of acrylic paint, with a bit of stamping thrown in.

Prayer Flags

This week at Wanderlust Kasia, one of tutors, showed us how she makes prayer flags.

As a rule, prayer flags are "a colorful rectangular cloth, often found strung along mountain ridges and peaks to promote peace, compassion, strength and wisdom. The flags do not carry prayers to gods, which is a common misconception; rather, the Tibetans believe the prayers and mantras will be blown by the wind to spread the good will and compassion into all pervading space. Therefore, prayer flags are thought to bring benefit to all. 

"The prayers of a flag become a permanent part of the universe as the images fade from exposure to the elements. Just as life moves on and is replaced by new life, Tibetans renew their hopes for the world by continually mounting new flags alongside the old. My prayer flags carry the words peace, love, justice, hope and faith and, for me, they are prayers for our world.

Art Journalling with Watercolours

Stephanie Schutze was the guest artist this week, using watercolours in her art journal. I used her page as a basis for mine, that  is a girl looking out from a window at the landscape beyond.

I enjoyed painting the face; so too using watercolours and seeing the effects I could create with them. Not entirely sure about the finished pages, but it was a good exercise!
