The next exercise was to draw with something unusual.

A spatula.

Dina Wakley classes

Just over a week ago I was lucky enough to attend some of Dina's classes at Art from the Heart in Harrogate. The first class was about being able to draw faces expressively. To help us draw more freely Dina gave us some exercises:

To draw with our left hand.

To draw without taking our pencil off the paper.

To draw without looking at what we are drawing.

She is unstoppable

I think that she also looks a little ill. Perhaps, she has been travelling too fast!!

I always blush very easily!

Be kind to yourself

Firstly, I collaged some bits of scrap paper onto the page, after which I randomly scraped on some acrylic paint.I then drew the lady and painted her hair and shirt and coloured her eyes and lips. I really like how this page turned out!

I stamped the image over some collage and randomly applied paints and inks.

A bird ...

... does not sing because it has an answer. It sings because it has a song.

I created this page by randomly adding some acrylic paint and spray ink to the page, along with a fragment of an old dictionary page. I then drew the branch on the page. I stamped the birds onto white card, painted them and then glued them onto the branch. Lastly, I added the quote and the script.

A black and white face

This face is a contrast to the colourful one yesterday. A drew it with a Stabilo All pencil and then went over the lines with a wet paintbrush.

A colourful face

This face is in Julie Fei-Fan Balzer style. i.e. lots of colour and suing one of her stencils in the background.

Art Journal Caravan - weeks 9 & 10

The word prompt for Week 9 of AJC was 'gather'. My digital piece is about gathering myself together!

Credits: silhouette from 'Sombras' ny Unica; all other elements by T Baxter (various kits, both @ SBG

Week 10 was about imagination. I'm not quite sure where this piece came from, but it is meant to represent the glory of imagination set against the, sometimes, mundanity of everyday life.

Dina Wakley stamps

Dina's stamps come in two sizes and here I used the larger ones as this is a much larger tag than the ones I used in the previous two posts. It measures 8 x 4 inches approx.

Art Journal Caravan - weeks 7 & 8

My piece for week 7 was inspired by Paul Klee. Unfortunately, I discovered too late that there has been a Klee exhibition on at the Tate Modern. Must pay more attention!

The theme for week 8, in case you can't tell, was 'gratitude'.

Believe and be determined

This journal page started by stamping excess ink from a mask onto the page. I then drew around the silhouette and painted the background with acrylic ink. I then used a stencil and spray ink to add more interest to the background. Then came the words.
