Today ...

... is the first day of the rest of your life. This is my offering for 'Take a Word' this week, where the theme is time.

Little bits of loveliness!

These backgrounds were made using Tim Holtz's Kraft Resist paper. I first painted it with gesso, and once this was dry used Distress stains to add the colour. To some I added some stampng, also using Distress Stain to give a water-colour look. So simple and yet so effective!

Painted canvas

I created this canvas by painting several layers of acrylic paint; firstly, starting with layers of yellow, orange and red, and then adding the turquoise and yet more yellow and orange. I used various stencils and stamps to create extra interest and depth. The figures are image transfers created from photos of mine that I took of icons in Hagia Sophia in Istanbul. The words were added using rub-on letters before the final glazing layer.

Celestial

I chose the sun for my piece for Take a Word this week. When you've read the quote you can decide which of the two options I have achieved; I would say the former, but I'm happy for you to disagree!!

The Orient

That's the theme from Sunday Postcard Art this week and I as I thought about what my postcard might look like I cast my mind back to my schooldays and being involved in a production of the Mikado ... well, it had to be three little maids, didn't it?! So here it is (double-click on it to be able to read the writing).

From my window

Here is a page of very rough pen sketches of views from our house. I don't think of myself as someone who can draw and so I am quite pleased with the way they turned out.

A tag

I decorated the background of this manilla tag with Fresco paints. I used Orchid for the first layer and then applied the crackle glaze over it. Then came a layer of London Night, which crackled to reveal the Orchid pink underneath. I used Tim Holtz stamps with crimson Archival Ink to add the decoration.

Twinkle, twinkle little star

Take a Word has chosen the word song this week, suggesting we choose a song title and take inspiration from the song for an art piece.

I made two ATCs.
