My chains fell off

The background of this journal page was created with several layers of acrylic paint. After the first couple of layers I painted on some gesso circles to give the rings. I then stamped on top of it (all Tim Holtz, Stamper Anonymous). The chains are decorated packing tape that I bought at Tate Modern a while a go.

Well, I made this piece a few weeks ago and wasn't sure I liked it but it seems very appropriate at the moment! I have been feeling ill for a few weeks and the doctor has now diagnosed me with a quinsy and I am on my second lot of antibiotics. To add to my concern, I am meant to be writing an essay for university but am not getting far with this. Consequently, I am not posting as frequently on my blog, so apologies to my faithful followers.

These tags started out as two sheets of watercolour paper that I sprayed with paint and Glimmer Mists. I stamped the snowflakes with Versamark and rubbed Pan Pastels over them. I then die cut the paper into tags and added the decorations.

I had fun with this journal page; make of it what you will!

The background is soft pastels. I stuck on the two men and coloured them, and then added the stars - spray paint through a stencil. Lastly came the clapperboard and words. I sprayed the picture with a fixative and then outlined all the elements.

The page started with some Glimmer Mist and stencils and then I collage on a few bit of scrap paper. Then came the picture followed by the stamping. To finish it off I used some Inka Gold in copper and green.

Those were the days

I created this journal page by first painting a layer of green acrylic paint as the background. I then stuck on the picture of the lady's face and applied some stencilling in various colours around it. I masked the face and sprayed on black paint. For the final stage, I added some extra colour using oil pastels. I used a white gel pen to add the words.

Dina taught us to make use of complementary colours (blue and orange in this case), and white space. I have also tried to make my hand writing freer. It's not quite illegible yet, but it's getting there! Dina deliberately uses this as a technique so that others cannot read what she has written.

Paper Artsy have released some new stamps designed by Lynne Perrella. Now I have had a chance to play with mine I am really pleased with them. I used ultra smooth card (a tip I learned from Dina Wakley) and stamped on it with black StazOn ink. They looked like they had been printed! I then coloured them; some with water-soluble oil pastels and some with ProMarkers. Little pieces of exuberance!

Here is a canvas I created using techniques I learned on the course with Lynne Perrella, and using the same Ingres face as my triptych. Did you recognise it? I tried to be exuberant, as that is one of the things I picked up from Lynne. Click on the image to see it at its best.

On the second day with Lynne we decorated a huge shadow box, 32 x 42 inches. We decorated the background with various papers and stamping. The lady was a black and white photocopy on card, which we decorated using paints and stencils. She was stuck on foam board onto the background to give her some dimensionality. Various embellishments were then added. We then decorated the frame, first painting it and then stamping onto it. (Apologies for the photo - I should have thought to take the picture before I attached the glass!)

Artsy Crafts course with Lynne Perrella

I have been so lucky recently. First a day with Dina Wakley and then two days with Lynne Perrella.

On the first day we made a triptych. The relevant bits of wood were supplied and we decorated them under Lynne's guidance and then put them together.

To start we applied gesso to the wood. Once dry, we stuck on a photocopy of a face, applied a wash of paint over it and then dry-brushed the background around it with our chosen colours. The next step was to apply paint through stencils and build up lots of layers. This took up the morning. In the afternoon we made our embellishments - stamping and cutting them out and arranging them on the triptych.

I created the background of this page by using different colours of acrylic paint and adding patterns made using an old credit card and bottle tops. I then stuck the collage elements in with Tim Holtz masking tape, stamped the additional images and added my journalling.

Dream - a tag

I started to decorate this large tag by applying Artist Spackle through a stencil. Once dry I painted gesso over the whole thing and then swiped it all over with a light green Pan Pastel. I then stamped the round Dina Wakley stamp using Versamark and applied orange Pan Pastel over it (a technique learnt from Lin Brown). I repeated this technique with a diamond stencil and blue Pan Pastel. Next, I stamped the image of the woman (another Dina Wakley stamp), some little bits of text and the word 'dream', a Tim Holtz stamp using cobalt Archival Ink. The ribbon is old sari waste. I have to say, I quite like the end result!
