Faith - another journal page

This page also started with gluing on some paper fragments. Having then sprayed some colour over the page using some stencils, I stamped on the houses,  both the outlines and blocks of colour. I swiped on blue and violet acrylic paint for the sky, stamped on the circles and finished the page with the quote and music notes. Done! Doubleclick on it for a better view.

Be - a journal page

I started this page by gluing on some fragments of text and then applied several different colours of acrylic paint. To soften them a little, I then sprayed white paint over the whole page. I cut out the different shapes from decorative paper and, once I had glued them on, I went around them with black pen.The journalling was the last thing to be added.

Composition - grid

The final week of Claudine Hellmuth's composition class is about grid backgrounds. Well, I have to admit this is the one I found hardest! I created two, quite different, pieces.

I prefer the second. What about you?

Life's a beach!

The theme from Take a Word this week is 'beach'. Well it's so hot and humid in London today I wish I was on one!

My digital piece is an abstract representation of a beach. The background, which I've altered, came from an old Art Creations Friday challenge.

Remember that postcard I created a couple of weeks ago for Sunday Postcard Art?  Well, I actually created two and this is the second one!

I made these cards using elements from CraftWorkCards. Apologies, the photos are not great because of the shine on the card, but if you double-click on the picture you will be able to see them better.

Glassine papers

I bought these papers a while ago and then didn't do anything with them. A friend showed me how she had used it and then I saw Tim Holtz's blog, both of which inspired me to try out some techniques. This is what I created.

The top right and bottom left rectangles were made by scrunching-up the paper, flattening it again and applying layers of spray inks, with and without mica. I then rubbed Inka Gold paint lightly over the top to pick up the wrinkles.

The middle left piece was stamped, twice, and then heated to ensure the patterns sank into the paper.

The other three pieces were all embossed. The top left just had Perfect Pearls brushed over it. To create the effect on the bottom right piece I swiped Walnut Distress Ink over it to highlight the pattern, and for the one above I then dusted Perfect Pearls over the wet Distress Ink. I heat set them all.

Composition - vignette

Week three of Claudine Hellmuth's composition class is about creating a vignette. I followed this to make my Father's Day card (I can show it now!). The image in the centre is by Cezanne.

Fantasy

That's the them given to us by Take a Word this week. I just played around and this is the end result!

Embrace imperfection!

This week the theme from Sunday Postcard Art is Vintage Men. My postcard, which is rather tongue in cheek, is one that I made by hand and then added some digital filters.

Printer's tray

Whilst on holiday I found a craft shop that was selling printer's trays half price. I had often looked at them but resisted getting one because of the price, but this was too good an opportunity!

The metal backgrounds were made using coloured metal sheets, embossing them with Ten Seconds Studio moulds and swiping alcohol ink over them to remove the original colour and add that of the alcohol ink.The bird was die-cut and decorated using the same method. The word 'art' was made from Grungeboard sprayed with Glimmer Mist. I attached the elements using matte medium. I coloured the little porcelain doll with alcohol ink and Glimmer Mist.

Sunflower tag no. 2

I used white pigment ink to stamp first two sunflowers and then applied Peeled Paint and Vintage Photo Distress Ink all over the tag, creating the faint white sunflowers in the background. Then I stamped on the green sunflowers using Olive Archival ink to create a focal point. The ribbon (sari waste) adds the finishing touch

Sunflower tag

I made this tag by swiping two Distress Stains over it, stamping on the lines in the same colour green and then stamping on the sunflowers using plum Archival Ink. Simple, yet effective! Double-click on it to get a better view.

Papier mache heart

I decorated this heart using red and gold acrylic paint and black rub-ons.

Me!

I am very honoured to be hosting Sunday Postcard Art this week and have chosen the theme of 'me'. It is going to be so interesting to see what everybody creates. My piece was created using a picture of me when I was about 12 combined, digitally, with two mixed media collages that I created previously.

Every possibility ...

This background of this journal page was created by applying spray paints, followed by a thin layer of gesso and then spraying paints through stencils.

Which face am I wearing today?

Bookmark

I made this bookmark using mostly scraps that were on my desk. Double-click on it for a better view.

It started with part of a page from an old atlas stuck onto a strip of watercolour paper. I then sprayed blue and then yellow over stencils. Then came the first layer, collage pieces plus the two bits of tissue tape (the butterflies). I then added the film strip and edged the bookmark with Distress Ink. To finish it off I covered the back with decorative paper so nobody can see the stains!

Sunday Postcard Art

This week the theme is boats, and I decided to make a mixed media piece.

To make the background I painted some green paint onto watercolour paper and when it was dry swiped some patches of Vaseline over it. Another layer of paint, this time light blue.When dry I wiped the surface with a paper towel, removing the top layer of paint where the Vaseline was, to reveal the green paint underneath.

N.B. Watch this space next week as I shall actually be hosting Sunday Postcard Art. I am so excited and so honoured to be asked. Can't wait!

Travelling salesman

My second attempt at an asymmetrical collage. As it happens, 'stars' is the theme at Take a Word this coming Monday and so this shall be my contribution.

A distracted bombshell!

I have started Claudine Hellmuth's Composition for Collage course over at Big Picture Classes. The first week concentrates on asymmetry. This is my first attempt.
